Several gunshots were reported shortly after midnight in the 100 block of South Bernardo Avenue, the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety said in a news release.

Officers arrived to find the victim inside a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds.

The man received medical aid at the scene and was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. He has not yet been publicly identified.

Authorities on Tuesday did not announce any arrests or release a description of the suspect.

An investigation is underway into the fatal shooting.
